This frame kit type includes 16 inch on center 2x6 pre-cut blocking
within the framed triangles.
The blocking provides additional support for both the interior and exterior
triangular panels. Blocking is positioned to
minimize waste. Ventilation under the Hardipanel may be provided
by using plywood scrap spacers above the plywood sheathing and under the Hardipanel
composite cement exterior. A clear plastic vapor barrier is normally
stapled over the frame (and cavity insulation) from inside the building to inhibit
moisture laden air from entering the insulated dome shell cavity. Blocking is positioned
so that the interior sheetrock is easier install.
Our "Basic" frame
kit is ideal for those who wish to have the smooth sculpted
look of sheetrock on the interior. The "Basic" 2x6 frame kit is recommended for
high snow load and high wind areas. The "Basic" frame kit is also easier and safer
to climb on for those that want working conditions to be as safe as possible.
2. The "T-Beam" EconOdome 2x6 frame kit.
The "T-Beam"
frame kit type includes a 2x6 main frame with attached
2x4 interior trim that will assist with construction and be exposed to the inside.
This kit is designed for
those who wish to create a beautiful patterned ceiling and add a woodsy
look to the interior of their dome home. The "T-Beam" frame kit allows
easier total completion of the exterior shell "inside and outside" than any other type
of home building system that we are aware of. Insulated triangular panels are held in
place by the attractive (sanded and edge routered) wood trim. You will be responsible for
applying any desired putty, paint, or stain prior to assembly.
Ventilation within the dome shell cavity is allowed from panel to panel via
holes drilled in the struts. With this kit type the ceiling is deliberately allowed to
breathe a small amount thru very small openings at the strut ends.
This breathing feature allows humid, stale, and toxic interior air to
naturally escape upward, while having
a negligible effect on energy efficiency.
We call our T-Beam frame kit,
the "woodsy" dome kit with the "breathing ceiling".
Ventilation air for the dome shell, for both EconOdome kit types, may be drawn up from the crawl space or the intake can be at the lower exterior perimeter of the exterior composite cement Hardipanel siding. Screening is used over all intake and exhaust ventilation openings to keep insects out of the ventilation space.

*Choose only one of two available EconOdome frame kit types.
*Both frame kit types are cut from #1 select kiln dried 2x6 structural grade Southern Pine lumber.
*All frame kit parts are pre-drilled for special non-splitting screws that stitch all connections securely.
*All necessary connecting screws and stainless steel metal straps are included with every frame kit.
*Both frame kit types include door and window framing within ten pre-assembled trapezoids that will stand vertically at the lower perimeter.
*Extensions are not necessary to install conventional operable windows and exterior doors.
*Attractive and functional optional canopies may be added over doors and windows after enclosing and sealing.
*All compound miter cut custom skylight framing within triangles is included at no extra cost.
*With both frame kit types: optional pre-cut exterior panels (plywood & Hardipanel) are available.
*Optional pre-cut sheetrock and insulated (R-35) triangular interior panels are available for the T-Beam frame kit only.
*We encourage you to save money by cutting your own triangle shaped panels. We will supply you with "free" detailed
instructions on "how to efficiently cut triangle panels" for any size EconOdome frame kit.
