Basic, T-Beam, & Hybrid![]()
Our dome kits are designed to be economically completed by anyone,
with or without prior construction experience.
We advise that you hire local people to assist you on a by-the-hour basis, if you wish help
with building your new dome home using our manual and an EconOdome frame kit.
We now standardly
manufacture three types of EconOdome frame kits and two types of triangular panel
kits.
Choose an EconOdome frame kit types depending on your tastes, budget, and climate requirements.
Our Basic EconOdome frame kit is the strongest and most economical
of our three frame kit types. We manufacture the EconOdome T-Beam
and Hybrid frame kits to eliminate overhead interior finish work and to
create a real pretty ceiling with a lot of exposed wood and patterning.
Choose any of 6 standard sizes depending on your needs and budget.
The T-Beam EconOdome 2x6
frame kit.
The T-Beam frame kit includes a 2x6 main
frame with attached 2x4 interior trim.
The T-Beam frame kit is designed for those people who
wish to add a creative triangulated pattern and a woodsy look to
the interior of their dome home.
The T-Beam frame kit
is also designed for quick assembly and completion of the shell
"inside and outside". The interior face of the
triangular panels may be finished with sheetrock, paneling, wood
boards, acoustical material, or upholstry. The interior of the
dome shell is already trimmed. Materials to finish and insulate
the interior are laid in from above, into the triangular bays.
The interior trim of the T-Beam frame extends one inch into the
triangular openings to hold the panels in place. The interior T-Beam
trim starts above the loft floor level so wiring and finish work
may be done conventionally on the lowest portion of the Econ-O-Dome
building frame.

Pre-assembled trapezoids that contain framed door and window openings are stacked at back.
All struts have routered and sanded 2x4 interior trim pre-attached.
Pre-assembled conventional skylight framing is shown in the forground.
We also make a Hybrid EconOdome 2x6
frame kit.
The Hybrid frame kit includes a 2x6 main
frame with attached 2x4 interior trim and 2x4
blocking. Additional panel edge blocking and 2x4 blocking
installed at 16 inch spacing makes the Hybrid frame kit very stout and able to resist
sustained high snow loads and high winds.
The Hybrid frame kit looks just like the T-Beam frame kit
from inside.
The difference is that it has additional 2x4 blocking within
120 triangles on the upper part of the dome to meet high snow and wind loading requirements
where strict engineering requirements are enforced.
If you desire your dome home to handle deep snows and high winds,
you may want to choose either the Hybrid or the Basic frame kits.
Half inch thick wood sheathing and one inch rigid insulation
is glued to the back of half inch thick drywall when making triangular panels for
the Hybrid frame kit.
The two inch thick triangular panels are then installed into each triangular bay, and,
then, 2x4 blocking is installed behind each triangular panel.
The remainder of the rigid insulation insulation is cut to fit between the 2x4 blocking.
The perimeter
of each rigid insulation panel is sealed to the frame with expanding foam dispensed from a can.
"Great Stuff" is one expanding foam product that works well for this purpose.
The Hybrid frame kit prices and interior panel kit prices for the
Hybrid frame kit
are not listed with the pricing info that may be accessed at the bottom of this page.
Basically,the Hybrid frame kit
is a beefed up T-Beam frame kit that costs 25% more than our T-Beam
frame kit.

Connecting hardware is
included with all type frame kits (special non-splitting screws
and stainless steel metal straps). All components are predrilled for connecting
screws. All custom skylight framing is included at no extra
charge. Our Basic, T-Beam, and Hybrid
frame kits are
manufactured from #1 kiln dried 2x6 Southern Pine lumber. We offer
exterior panel kits for all three types of EconOdome frame kits, so, you
can get enclosed more quickly.
Exterior panel kits consist of 130
pre-cut triangles of 1/2 inch thick osb and 130 pre-cut triangles
of 5/16 inch thick smooth-surfaced Hardipanel. We supply panels for all triangular
sloping surfaces.The Hardipanel
triangles are nailed with roofing nails over the o.s.b. triangles
and then the surface is then waterproofed with color tinted
elastomeric sealer paint.

Our interior panel kit is designed for
our T-Beam frame kit. The interior panel kit consists of 4&1/2 inches
thick rigid insulation (R-31.5) laminated to 1/2 inch
thick gypsum wallboard. The sheetrock seam, if any, is butted with sheetrock tapered
edges together so you can easily create an excellent finish on the flat triangular surfaces.
The total R value for the T-Beam insulated panel assembly is aproximately R-35.
If you order a "Basic" frame kit, directions for interior sheetrock panel cutting
are in the EconOdome Planning and Building Manual.
